The FDA sent a warning letter to Brazilian Blowout on 22 August 2011 about the Brazilian Blowout hair treatment’s levels of formaldehyde – a known cancer causing or cancer aggrevating agent. The label on Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution says that Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution is formaldehyde free, when the product contains a liquid form of formaldehyde, methylene glycol, which is released into the air when Brazilian Blowout treated hair is heated, as with a blow dryer or hot flat iron.

The levels of formaldehyde in Brazilian Blowout are high, while the label states that the product is formaldehyde free.
